

The MTCC Caribbean has established Energy Efficiency Focal Points (EEFP) in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, Belize, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. ✓ establish voluntary pilot data-collection and reporting systems to feed back into the global regulatory process ✓ promote uptake of low-carbon technologies and operations in maritime transport ✓ help participating countries develop national energy-efficiency policies and measures for their maritime sectors ✓ improve compliance with existing and future international energy-efficiency regulations Vivian Rambarath-Parasram, Director and Head of MTCC Caribbean presented in the first session of the symposium to introduce the goals of the Global MTCC Network in mitigating climate change in the maritime industry. MTCC Caribbean is also hosted by The University of Trinidad and Tobago and in pursuing climate action in the maritime sector, the MTCC has executed several capacity building workshops since June 2017 and is implementing two pilot projects involving the uptake of energy efficient technologies and fuel consumption reporting. It is one of the initiatives implemented by the IMO geared towards Climate Change mitigation through the reduction of Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships. This project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) with the central aim of promoting technical cooperation and capacity building within the maritime sector of the region. The MTCC Caribbean is one of five MTCCs constituting the Global Maritime Network (GMN) Project. The symposium, “UTT’s role in research, new knowledge and wealth creation in Trinidad and Tobago”, included presentations from academia on topics such as, cultural and creative industries development, food security, green society, industrial upgrading, healthy citizens, global skills cultivation, 21st century infrastructure and entrepreneurship.

The Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre Caribbean (MTCC Caribbean) presented a paper and poster at the inaugural research symposium hosted by The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), Trinidad and Tobago.
